NDSU Athletics Announces New Titles for Administrative Staff

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State University director of athletics Matt Larsen has announced title changes for five administrative staff members who have a combined 70 years of experience within the NDSU athletic department.
 
The changes reflect the important roles of each staff member with a focus on increased revenue generation, fiscal strategy, and improved engagement with fans and donors supporting Bison Athletics.
 
Colleen Heimstead has been elevated to Executive Associate Athletic Director and will continue in her role as the athletic department’s Senior Woman Administrator. Heimstead is responsible for all facets of NCAA, conference and institutional compliance and works closely with campus departments including student financial services, registration and records, and academic advising to ensure compliance for all 16 sports and approximately 400 student-athletes. She has been at NDSU since 2005.
 
Josh Hemingway is now Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations. Hemingway has been the head of business operations and finance for NDSU Athletics since February 2021. A graduate of NDSU’s accounting program, he joined the Bison athletic department in 1995 working as an accounting intern, group ticket sales manager and ticket manager before being named director of tickets, events and facility operations in 2002.
 
Derrick Lang has been elevated to Executive Associate Athletic Director for Development and will manage the day-to-day development operations while continuing to be the athletic department’s primary liaison to the Team Makers Board of Directors, a role he has held since 2019. A graduate of NDSU and former Bison football player, Lang has been with the NDSU athletic department since 2016 spending two years as assistant director of marketing and fan engagement, and one year as director of external relations and corporate partnerships.
 
Jack Maughan is now Senior Associate Athletic Director for Principal Giving. Maughan was the senior associate AD for development the past 12 years and has been instrumental in securing major gifts for endowments and facility projects. A former student body president and graduate of NDSU, he was a two-time All-America wrestler for the Bison before a 22-year coaching career at Northern Colorado.
 
Garrett Mennenga has been promoted to Director of Annual Giving after two years working as the assistant director of development. Mennenga will continue to focus on all aspects of the annual fund, including season tickets, tailgating, Team Makers memberships, the hospitality program and transportation team. Prior to coming to NDSU in 2022, he spent two years as a sports operations graduate assistant at Minnesota State University Mankato and held internships with the Green Bay Packers and Arizona State.
