Barnes County (trfnews.i234.me) — A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run on Interstate 94 west of Valley City, officials said.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
Calls began Saturday
Troopers said they began getting calls on Saturday.
Callers reported a man walking along I-94.
Troopers went to make contact, officials said.
They said the man declined further assistance.
Body found Sunday near Mile Marker 282
On Sunday at about 2:30 p.m., a passerby called 911.
The caller reported a body in the ditch.
Officials stated that it was located near Mile Marker 282.
That location is about eight miles west of Valley City.
Troopers and the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office responded.
They located the deceased in the same area.

Evidence points to a hit-and-run
Investigators found pieces of a vehicle at the scene, officials said.
They stated that the pieces were consistent with a hit-and-run incident.
A large portion of a vehicle’s bug deflector was found at the scene.
Officials said it was damaged and left behind.
Victim and vehicle not yet identified
The pedestrian’s identity has not been released.
Officials did not release the person’s age or hometown.
The vehicle involved has not been identified or located.
Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.
What investigators want the public to watch for
Troopers asked the public to watch for a vehicle with fresh damage.
Officials said the vehicle likely was in the area late Saturday night.
It may have been there early Sunday morning.
They said damage may be on the front end.
They also said damage may be on the front passenger side.
