News release – 9/22/24

On the afternoon of 09/13/24, Maddelyn Francine Haugrud (27) of Grand Forks was cited for speeding on CR. #1 east of Red Lake Falls.

On the afternoon of 09/14/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about vehicle’s parked in a manner that blocked a public sidewalk along Champagne Ave. in Red Lake Falls. A Red Lake County deputy spoke with the vehicles’ owner and warned them about the ordinance violation and advised them to not to block the sidewalk.

On the evening of 09/15/24, a Red Lake County deputy and the Oklee Ambulance responded to an Oklee residence to check the welfare of an extremely intoxicated individual. The person was treated at the scene, and they were not transported to the ER.

On the afternoon of 09/16/24, James Robert Kupfer (71) of Pinewood, MN was cited for speeding on Hwy. #92 east of Hwy. #32.

On 09/17/24, a formal criminal complaint was filed, charging Tanya Kathleen Nelson (30) of McIntosh with felony failure to register as a predatory offender and failing to provide required information. The complaint alleges Ms. Nelson resided in the city of Plummer from March of 2023 through August of 2023 and she failed to verify her address with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension because she did not want them to know where she was living. Ms. Nelson will be summoned to appear in Court in Red Lake Falls in September of 2024.

On the afternoon of 09/17/24, Red Lake County law enforcement responded to a motor vehicle crash on Elevator Rd. in Oklee. A mini-payloader pulled out from the Ag lot and struck a car. The car was substantially damaged, and the driver sustained some minor injuries from the car’s airbag. Damage to the mini-payloader was minor, the operator was not injured, and the car was towed from the scene by the owner.

On the afternoon of 09/17/24, an Oklee resident reported a theft of property. That report is still under investigation.

On the afternoon of 09/17/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a small dog had been attacked by a larger dog that was running loose on the north side of Red Lake Falls. Red Lake County deputies investigated the report and discovered that Maleah Margaret Lee (24) of Red Lake Falls was the owner of the dog that was running loose and committed the attack. She was cited for permitting a public nuisance in violation of the city’s ordinance. Unfortunately, the dog that was attacked did not survive.

On the evening of 09/17/24, a Brooks resident reported they thought someone may be lurking around their house. Red Lake County deputies responded and did not find any suspects. Extra patrol was provided for the remainder of the night.

On the morning of 09/18/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of concerns about some children’s welfare in Oklee. The Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Red Lake County Social Services are investigating the report.

On the evening of 09/18/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of two individuals who appeared to be fighting with each other in a vehicle that was traveling in Red Lake Falls. A Red Lake County deputy responded to the area of the report but was unable to locate the suspect vehicle. No other related reports were received.

On the morning of 09/19/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of some sheep running loose near Hwy. #59 north of Plummer. The owner of the animals was contacted, and a Red Lake County deputy responded. The sheep were rounded up and put back into their enclosure prior to the deputy’s arrival.
