Moorhead Woman Charged After Allegedly Spitting on Officer
Moorhead (trfnews.i234.me) — Kinyaa Josephine Luka faces a felony fourth-degree assault charge in Clay County District Court.
Prosecutors allege Luka intentionally spat on a Moorhead police officer during a medical response.
The alleged incident happened on May 7, 2026, near Main Avenue North in Moorhead.
The felony charge carries up to three years in prison.
It also carries a possible fine of up to $6,000.
Police Called to Person in Traffic
Moorhead police were dispatched after receiving a report of a woman walking in traffic.
Officers responded near 315 Main Avenue North, according to the criminal complaint.
Authorities found a woman lying in the roadway when they arrived.
Officers removed her from the road and identified her as Kinyaa Josephine Luka.
The complaint says Luka was breathing and her eyes were moving rapidly.
However, she allegedly refused to speak with officers at the scene.
Authorities requested an ambulance so Luka could receive medical evaluation at a hospital.
Spitting Alleged During Ambulance Response
The complaint says Luka became resistant while being placed inside the ambulance.
Prosecutors allege she began attempting to spit toward officers and medical personnel.
During the encounter, Luka allegedly spat into the face of a Moorhead police officer.
The complaint does not describe any additional physical injuries from the incident.

Luka is charged under Minnesota Statute 609.2231.
The statute covers fourth-degree assaults involving peace officers performing official duties.
