Warren Man Sentenced for Stealing Thief River Falls Pickup Truck: Prison Time and Probation Ordered

Kyle Allen Larson

Kyle Allen Larson, a 38-year-old resident of Warren, was sentenced in Pennington County District Court on Monday, August 26, for stealing a pickup truck from Thief River Falls. Larson faced felony charges for motor vehicle theft and received a stay of adjudication for a gross misdemeanor charge related to controlled substance possession.

For the felony charge, Larson was sentenced to 15 months in prison, with the sentence stayed for five years, to be served concurrently with the gross misdemeanor. He is also ordered to serve five years of supervised probation. Larson must complete a comprehensive assessment within 60 days of sentencing and follow through with the recommended treatment and aftercare. He is required to meet with mental health professionals and is prohibited from using or possessing firearms, ammunition, or explosives. Additionally, Larson must provide a DNA sample and pay $210 in fees and fines.

For the gross misdemeanor charge of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance, Larson was granted a stay of adjudication. He will serve two years of supervised probation under similar conditions, excluding the DNA sample requirement.

The charges stemmed from a March 24, 2023, report of motor vehicle theft in Basswood Circle, Thief River Falls. The truck’s owner suspected Larson, who had stayed overnight at the victim’s home. Upon waking, the owner found both his 2005 Dodge Ram truck and Larson missing. Larson was reported to be wearing black clothing and a brown jacket at the time.

A sheriff’s deputy later learned that the Red Lake Police Department had discovered the abandoned vehicle.
