Fergus Falls Woman Faces Felony Card Fraud Charge
Fergus Falls (trfnews.i234.me) — A Fergus Falls woman faces a felony financial card fraud charge following a private vehicle sale.
Jenee Marie Babic is charged in Otter Tail County District Court.
Prosecutors allege credit cards provided for the vehicle purchase were later used for unauthorized charges.
The alleged activity occurred between April 23 and May 1, 2026.
Vehicle Sale Leads to Dispute
According to the complaint, JBH and GBH agreed to purchase a vehicle from Babic for $1,700.
JBH paid a $200 deposit on April 23 using a credit card.
She returned on April 28 and authorized another $1,500 payment using a second card.
Babic processed the payments through a card reader connected to her phone, court records state.
The transactions appeared under a food truck business operated by Babic.
JBH later reviewed her statements and found several additional charges she said were not authorized.
Those included alleged business charges of $1,200 and $1,500.
Another $1,500 charge allegedly appeared on the card used for the original deposit.
Tuition Payment Questioned
JBH also found a $306.26 charge connected to Valley City State University.
She told investigators she had not approved that payment.
The complaint says university records showed Babic called and provided the card number for a tuition payment.
JBH told police only the $200 deposit and later $1,500 vehicle payment were authorized.
Babic Says Charges Were Accidental
Babic acknowledged handling the vehicle transaction, according to the complaint.
She said multiple card attempts occurred because some transactions appeared not to process correctly.
Babic also said the university payment resulted from accidentally using card information stored in an application.
She denied intentionally using another person’s credit card information.
Investigators later contacted the payment provider about how its system handles card information.
The company reportedly said merchants cannot access scanned card details as Babic had described.
Bank records also showed Babic contacted customer service about a negative business account balance.
Felony Charge Filed
Babic faces one felony count of financial card fraud.
The complaint lists a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
