Cass Lake Man Charged After Foot Chase, Struggle

Cass Lake (trfnews.i234.me) — A Cass Lake man faces two charges after an alleged foot chase and struggle during an arrest.

Jaysiah Edward Wind is charged with gross misdemeanor obstruction of legal process.

He also faces a misdemeanor charge of fleeing a peace officer on foot.

The charges stem from an April 28, 2026, encounter in Cass Lake.

Police Approach Wind in Cass Lake

According to the criminal complaint, law enforcement saw Wind walking near Basswood Avenue and Third Street Northwest.

The encounter occurred at about 11:37 a.m.

The complaint says authorities knew Wind had an active felony warrant from St. Louis County at that time.

An officer left a marked patrol vehicle and began approaching Wind.

Prosecutors allege Wind first walked away and then began running.

The officer followed Wind on foot and repeatedly ordered him to stop, according to court records.

The complaint says the officer eventually caught up with Wind and attempted to place him under arrest.

Complaint Alleges Physical Resistance

Prosecutors allege Wind pulled away as the officer tried to restrain him.

The officer then brought Wind to the ground, according to the complaint.

Wind allegedly continued resisting and refused to put his hands behind his back.

The complaint says he used physical force to keep his hands in front of his body.

After several minutes, authorities were able to place Wind under arrest.

The officer reported receiving several scrapes during the struggle.

No additional assault charge is listed in this complaint.

Two Charges Filed in Cass County

The obstruction count alleges Wind interfered with the lawful execution of an arrest through force or violence.

The complaint lists a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail for that charge.

It also lists a possible fine of up to $3,000.

The fleeing charge alleges Wind ran to avoid arrest or detention.

That misdemeanor carries up to 90 days in jail and a possible $1,000 fine.
