Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji man faces a felony assault charge after an alleged confrontation involving a handgun.

Emerejirdo Duane Carmona is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

Prosecutors allege Carmona entered a residence and pointed a pistol at two people.

Two People Report Handgun Threat

According to the criminal complaint, deputies responded around 1:54 a.m. to a report involving a weapon.

Two residents, identified as S.T. and N.T., spoke with authorities after they arrived.

Both said Carmona entered their residence while carrying a handgun.

S.T. told investigators Carmona chambered a round and pointed the firearm directly at her.

She said Carmona demanded information about the location of his nephews.

N.T. reported that Carmona entered her bedroom and pulled down a curtain.

She alleged Carmona pointed the firearm at her several times while yelling.

Both residents told investigators they feared Carmona might shoot them.

Handgun Later Recovered

N.T. told deputies Carmona threw the firearm under a couch when law enforcement arrived.

She also reported that a juvenile later retrieved the handgun and left the residence.

Authorities observed two juveniles walking toward another nearby residence after the incident.

Investigators later searched that location with permission from an adult resident.

A handgun was found inside, according to the complaint.

Authorities said the gun matched the description provided by the two witnesses.

The juvenile involved in the investigation is not being identified because of age.

Carmona Denies Having Firearm

Carmona denied possessing a firearm during the incident, according to court records.

However, he admitted going to the residence to confront another person.

Investigators arrested Carmona after reviewing the witness statements and recovering the handgun.

He now faces one felony count of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

The complaint lists a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

It also lists a possible fine of up to $14,000.
