Crookston Threats Case Leads to Felony Charge

Crookston (trfnews.i234.me) — A Fisher man faces felony threats and gross misdemeanor harassment charges in Polk County.

Dylan James Hanson is accused of sending repeated threatening messages to two people on December 28, 2024.

The alleged victims are identified in court records only as LJN and ECJ.

According to the complaint, LJN and Hanson have children together. LJN is now engaged to ECJ.

Argument Leads to Messages

The complaint says LJN contacted Hanson that evening about watching their children.

An argument followed, and LJN blocked Hanson’s phone number.

Prosecutors allege Hanson then used the TextNow application to contact LJN from another number.

LJN showed investigators messages she said came from Hanson.

The complaint describes several messages as threats of assault and death against LJN and ECJ.

LJN told authorities she left her home because she feared Hanson could show up.

Court records say Hanson and ECJ had also been involved in a physical fight about two years earlier.

Authorities Speak With Hanson

Authorities called Hanson later that evening.

The complaint says Hanson acknowledged that the TextNow number belonged to him.

He also acknowledged continuing to message LJN after his regular number was blocked.

Investigators reported that Hanson was emotional during the conversation.

The complaint says Hanson continued making statements about physically attacking ECJ if further contact occurred.

Authorities urged Hanson to avoid violence and stop contact with LJN and ECJ.

Hanson reportedly agreed to block their numbers.

Two Charges Filed

Prosecutors charged Hanson with felony threats of violence.

The complaint alleges Hanson threatened assault and murder against LJN and ECJ.

That felony count carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

It also carries a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Hanson also faces a gross misdemeanor harassment charge.

That count alleges repeated unwanted messages placed LJN in fear that ECJ could suffer substantial bodily harm.

The harassment charge carries up to 364 days in jail and a possible $3,000 fine.

Hanson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
