Crookston Man Faces Felony Domestic Assault Charge
Crookston (trfnews.i234.me) — Troy Wayne Williams faces a felony domestic assault charge in Polk County District Court.
The charge follows an alleged incident on August 13, 2026, in Crookston.
Williams is accused of assaulting a family or household member identified in court records only as A.S.
The criminal complaint says police responded around 10:06 p.m. after receiving a report of threats inside an apartment.
Argument Leads to Assault Allegation
According to the complaint, Williams and A.S. appeared intoxicated when officers arrived.
A.S. told investigators that she and Williams had been arguing.
She alleged Williams became angry while searching for a lighter and pushed her against a wall.
A.S. said she pushed Williams back before he allegedly punched her in the upper arm.
She told investigators that she then struck Williams in the face while defending herself.

The complaint alleges Williams pushed A.S. again during the confrontation.
A.S. also alleged Williams placed his hands around her neck.
Investigators reported seeing bruising on her arm and around both sides of her neck.
Williams Denies Assault
Williams was arrested and taken to the Northwest Regional Corrections Center, according to the complaint.
Court records say Williams later gave investigators a different account of the incident.
Williams said A.S. had threatened him with a knife during their argument.
He denied putting his hands on her, according to the complaint.
The complaint does not indicate that Williams has been convicted in connection with this latest allegation.
Prior Convictions Elevate Charge
Prosecutors charged Williams with felony domestic assault based partly on prior qualifying convictions.
The complaint lists a domestic assault conviction from 2021.
It also lists two domestic assault by strangulation convictions from 2016.
Under Minnesota’s domestic assault law, repeat qualifying offenses can raise the charge to a felony.
The complaint lists a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Prosecutors also filed notice that they may seek an aggravated sentence if Williams is convicted.
Public case information can be searched through Minnesota Court Records Online.
The case is filed under Polk County court file number 60-CR-26-1185.
The charge is an allegation and does not establish guilt.
Williams is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
