Karlstad Check Case Brings Felony Charge

Karlstad (trfnews.i234.me) — A Chanhassen man faces a felony charge involving two allegedly dishonored checks written to a Karlstad business.

Damon Roy Anderson, 50, is charged with felony issuance of a dishonored check.

Prosecutors say the two checks totaled $548.80.

The alleged transactions occurred on September 27, 2025, in Kittson County.

Two Checks Allegedly Returned Unpaid

According to the criminal complaint, both checks were made payable to Karlstad Korner.

One check was written for $410.

The second check was written for $138.80.

Both were drawn on a Discover Money Market account, according to prosecutors.

The business later received both checks back marked for insufficient funds.

The checks were then turned over to the Kittson County Sheriff’s Office.

Prosecutors allege Anderson intended for the checks not to be paid when they were issued.

The sheriff’s office sent Anderson a notice demanding payment on February 2, 2026.

The notice was mailed to the address listed on the checks.

However, the U.S. Postal Service returned the letter on February 11.

The returned notice stated there was no such number and the letter could not be forwarded.

The complaint also lists two $30 worthless-check fees.

Those fees raise the amount claimed due to $608.80.

The felony charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

It also carries a possible fine of up to $10,000.

The complaint was filed with a warrant in Kittson County District Court.

The case is filed as court file 35-CR-26-23.
