Thief River Falls Man Charged Over Stolen Jewelry

Thief River Falls (trfnews.i234.me) — A Thief River Falls man faces a felony charge involving stolen jewelry.

Tucker John Coombs is charged with felony possession of stolen property in Pennington County District Court.

The charge involves jewelry valued at more than $5,000, according to the criminal complaint.

Coombs is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Jewelry Reported Missing

The victim reported the theft to law enforcement on May 4, 2026.

The victim and his wife had returned from a vacation earlier that morning.

The victim later discovered her wedding ring and wedding band were missing.

She also reported that a set of diamond earrings had been taken.

The wedding rings were valued at about $10,000, according to the complaint.

The diamond earrings had a reported purchase value of $700.

Conner Oneill had stayed at the home while the victims were away.

Oneill told investigators that Francisco Valverde had visited the residence during that period.

Investigators later reviewed pawn transaction records connected to Coombs.

The records showed two jewelry items were pawned in Grand Forks on April 30.

The transaction occurred at a pawn shop on South Washington Street.

A two-tone engagement ring was pawned for $100.

A pair of gold stud earrings was pawned for another $20.

Investigators recovered the items and identified them as jewelry that had been reported stolen from the victim’s residence.

Surveillance video also showed a person believed to be Coombs completing the pawn transaction.

Coombs was later stopped near Thief River Falls while driving with Valverde, the complaint states.

Coombs initially told investigators that he found the jewelry while cleaning his vehicle.

He said he pawned the items because he needed money.

Investigators challenged that account using evidence collected during the investigation.

The complaint states Coombs later said Valverde gave him the jewelry.

Coombs allegedly said Valverde asked him to travel to Grand Forks and pawn the items.

The complaint also alleges Coombs knew the jewelry was stolen before the pawn transaction.

The money was allegedly used for gasoline and food.

Coombs is charged under Minnesota Statute 609.53.

The complaint also references Minnesota Statute 609.52.

The felony charge carries a maximum possible sentence of 10 years in prison.

It also carries a possible $20,000 fine, or both imprisonment and a fine.

The case is filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District under court file 57-CR-26-452.
