Nevis Man Charged After Detox Center Damage
NEVIS (trfnews.i234.me) — A Baxter man faces a felony charge after damage at a Hubbard County treatment center.
Zachary James Tretter, 45, is charged with first-degree criminal damage to property.
The complaint was filed in Hubbard County District Court under case number 29-CR-26-642.
The charge alleges the damage created a reasonably foreseeable risk of bodily harm.
Under Minnesota Statute 609.595, the felony carries a maximum five-year prison term.
The maximum fine is $10,000.
Disturbance Reported At Pine Manor
Authorities were called to Pine Manor Treatment Facility around 2:08 p.m. on July 19.
The complaint says staff reported a disturbance inside the facility.
A staff member reported that a man had locked himself inside a bathroom.
The initial report also alleged someone was being threatened with fire.
When authorities arrived, Tretter was outside near the entrance and soaking wet.
Tretter said he wanted to leave and believed his discharge process was taking too long.
The complaint says Tretter admitted barricading himself inside a bathroom.
He also allegedly pulled down a water pipe, causing water to rush into the building.
Water And Property Damage Reported
Investigators found water across the tile floor in a sleeping area.
A large mirror was broken inside the bathroom, according to the complaint.
Staff also reported that part of a toilet tank had been thrown onto the floor.
The porcelain piece was broken beyond repair.
Water also soaked sheetrock walls and portions of the ceiling.
Staff said some flooring might need removal because of the water exposure.
An investigator estimated the property damage exceeded $1,000.
Mya Wanda, identified as a detox nurse, said she heard fire alarms and rushing water.
She told investigators that she evacuated other patients before calling 911.
Wanda said Tretter later emerged from the bathroom area carrying part of the toilet tank.
She alleged he threw it onto the floor, breaking it.
Tretter was arrested at the scene.
The complaint does not describe any injuries resulting from the incident.
Case Remains Pending
The complaint lists earlier convictions involving burglary, forgery, and controlled-substance possession.
It also lists a separate DWI case as pending in Crow Wing County.
A pending charge is not a conviction.
Tretter is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
