WEST FARGO, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – The tragic death of 25-year-old Austin Strom, who was shot outside Prairie Heights Community Church on Saturday morning, was confirmed during Sunday services at the church. The shooting occurred at 7:48 a.m. in the church parking lot at 319 32nd Ave. E. in West Fargo, following an altercation involving three individuals.
Austin’s aunt, Rochelle Rech, identified him as the victim in a heartfelt message shared during the church’s 9 a.m. livestream. She also linked to a GoFundMe page set up to help cover funeral expenses. “He was a member of your church, and it became his second home,” Rech wrote, thanking the congregation for their support.
Beth Nelson, the lead pastor, and Executive Director Doug Peters acknowledged the incident during the service, noting that the circumstances surrounding the violence are still under police investigation. Witnesses reported hearing yelling before the gunfire, and at least one person recorded the altercation.
West Fargo Police have detained the two other individuals involved and are working to determine the nature of their relationship with Strom. Police Chief Pete Nielsen stated that the investigation is ongoing, and it’s unclear whether charges will be filed. The case will be reviewed by the state’s attorney’s office once more information is gathered.
