MADDOCK, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the Sheyenne man involved in a serious DUI crash early Sunday, April 21. Donald Ystaas, 71, lost control of his vehicle while driving southbound on Highway 30 around 1:55 a.m., striking a bridge guardrail five miles south of Maddock.
Emergency responders from Maddock Ambulance attended to Ystaas at the scene, treating him for serious injuries before transporting him to SMP Health-St. Aloisius in Harvey. From there, he was airlifted by Sanford AirMed to Sanford Hospital in Bismarck for further medical care.
Ystaas, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, now faces charges of driving under the influence. The incident underscores the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of wearing seat belts to prevent serious injuries.
