Walker Check Case Leads to Felony Charge

Walker, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A Duluth man faces a felony check forgery charge in Cass County District Court.

Elijah Jeremiah Brandow is charged with offering or possessing a forged check with intent to defraud. The case is filed under Minnesota Statute 609.631.

The complaint lists a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. It also lists a $20,000 fine, or both penalties.

The charge remains an allegation. Brandow is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Investigators Respond to Walker Business

The case began with a fraud report from Orton’s in Walker on August 27, 2025. A Cass County deputy received copies of two checks during the investigation.

The complaint describes one check as genuine and the other as fraudulent. Both checks carried the same check number. However, the listed payment amounts were different.

The disputed check was made payable to Brandow for $3,588.21. It also listed a Duluth address connected to him.

Investigators learned the check was cashed at First National Bank in Longville. Bank records placed the transaction at 1:37 p.m. on July 23, 2025.

Bank Images Identified Defendant

A bank manager told investigators that customers must show identification before receiving cash. The bank also provided still images from the transaction.

According to the complaint, the images showed Brandow cashing the disputed check. Investigators added the check copies and bank images to the case file.

The complaint also describes a separate call placed later that day. Brandow reportedly contacted law enforcement at about 3 p.m.

He said he had been left in an isolated area. He also claimed people had kidnapped him and forced him to cash a check.

Brandow reportedly said he did not know where the check had been cashed.

Cass County Court Case Moves Forward

The case was filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District. The court file number is 11-CR-26-870.
