Bemidji Man Charged After Guns Found in Shed

Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) — Devin Donald James Thunder faces a felony firearm charge in Beltrami County District Court.

Prosecutors allege Thunder possessed firearms and ammunition despite prior convictions that barred him from having those items.

The charge covers alleged conduct from July 31 through August 6, 2025. The case is filed as 04-CR-26-1107.

Thunder is charged with firearm possession after a crime-of-violence conviction. The complaint lists a maximum sentence of 15 years.

It also lists a $30,000 fine and a five-year minimum sentence.

Searches Target Bemidji Property

Court records say investigators searched a Windy Hill Lane property on July 31, 2025.

The warrant authorized searches for firearms, gun parts, holsters, magazines, and ammunition.

Investigators reported finding a handgun holster in the kitchen. They also found mail bearing Thunder’s name inside a bedroom.

The complaint says investigators later reviewed recorded jail calls between Thunder and Nicole Kramer.

Prosecutors claim the calls included coded discussions about a silver or gray item.

Investigators believed those discussions concerned a firearm. They also reviewed a video call recorded inside the Windy Hill Lane home.

During that call, investigators reported seeing a black and gray rifle in a corner.

That discovery helped support a second search warrant.

During the August 6 search, investigators reported finding a silver and black Ruger 9mm handgun.

The handgun was inside a red holster.

Investigators also searched a white shed near the home.

They reported finding a shotgun, a rifle, a revolver, a pistol lower, and several types of ammunition.

Some items were wrapped in black garbage bags. Others were inside a black drawstring bag, according to the complaint.

Kramer told investigators that she and Thunder lived at the Windy Hill Lane property.

She also said Thunder was on federal probation for a gun-related offense.

Thunder denied knowing about the firearms. He also denied involvement with the items recovered during the search.

Investigators later determined the Ruger handgun had been reported stolen.

They also learned the Savage rifle had been reported stolen.

The current complaint charges Thunder with unlawful firearm and ammunition possession.

It does not charge him with stealing those firearms.

Prosecutors say Thunder cannot legally possess firearms because of earlier crime-of-violence convictions.

The complaint cites convictions for threats of violence and felony drug possession.
