Mahnomen Woman Dies After Car Enters Lake

MAHNOMEN, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — Kaylee Smith, 36, died Wednesday after her car entered a small lake in Mahnomen County.

Dispatch received a 911 call at about 7:30 a.m. on July 29.

The caller reported a vehicle off County Road 3, south of Highway 200.

The car had entered a small lake and was fully submerged.

Mahnomen County deputies and other officers entered the water after reaching the scene.

Responders searched for the vehicle and confirmed it remained below the surface.

Vehicle Pulled From the Lake

A deputy attached a fire truck winch line to the submerged car.

Crews then pulled the vehicle from the water.

Smith, who lived in Mahnomen, was found dead inside the vehicle.

Authorities have not released further details about the moments before the crash.

The cause remains under investigation.

Officials have not announced any early findings or possible contributing factors.

White Earth Police Department officers also assisted at the lake.

Firefighters from Mahnomen, Waubun, and Twin Lakes responded.

White Earth conservation officers also helped during the operation.

The response brought law enforcement, firefighters, and conservation officers to the rural crash scene.

Their work focused on locating the car and recovering it from the water.
