LuVerne Mathson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and distinguished member of the community, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was a remarkable man who dedicated his life to his country, his family, and his passions.

LuVerne honorably served in the United States Army, retiring after a commendable career marked by his unwavering dedication and patriotism. His service to the nation was a source of immense pride, reflecting his deep sense of duty and commitment.

After his military service, LuVerne managed Richards Shoe Store in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin for 15 years. He then found a new calling as an auctioneer. His vibrant personality and strong presence made him a respected figure in the auctioneering community. He brought excitement and professionalism to every auction, earning the admiration of colleagues and clients alike as a mentor.

Beyond his professional achievement, LuVerne was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria (Anderson) Mathson with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of 65 years. Together, they raised five children, Anita (Greg) Domino, LuWayne (Mandy) Mathson, LuAnn (Forrest) Larson, Laurie (Tom) McDonald, and Jay (Krista) Mathson who cherished him as a loving, caring and supportive father. His legacy lives on through his eleven grandchildren to include (Anita) Ryan, Kristin, (Wayne) Luke, Aaron (LuAnn) Jacob, Megan, (Laurie) Nick, Amber, (Jay) Austin, Dustin, and Brock and eight great grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life and whom he adored deeply. He is also survived by his only niece, Cindy (Mark) Nelson and children, daughter of his brother Darryl. Preceding in death were his parents, John Raymond Mathson and Gertie (Langie) Mathson. Also, his brother Darryl Mathson and nephew Guy Mathson.

LuVerne’s memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him. He was the type of man who would literally give you the shirt off his back if you were cold. He invited many people into his life who needed a helping hand. He was a man of integrity, warmth, and kindness, whose presence enriched the lives of those around him. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is at peace and that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire them.

A celebration of LuVerne’s life will be held on August 8, 2024 at 10:30 AM. The service will be held at Salem Lutheran Church, Oklee, MN with Pastor Dawn Hanson Officiating. Burial will be held at Salem Church Cemetery.
