Moorhead Man Charged After Gun Fires in Shop

Moorhead (trfnews.i234.me) — A Moorhead man faces three felony charges following a reported gunshot inside a local shop.

Andrew Elias Ramirez was charged in Clay County District Court. The charges stem from an incident reported on July 1, 2026.

The criminal complaint lists two counts of unlawful firearm or ammunition possession. It also lists reckless firearm discharge within a municipality.

Disturbance Reported Inside Shop

According to the complaint, Ramirez was speaking with a police investigator by telephone. The investigator reportedly heard yelling during the call.

Officers were then sent to a property on Second Avenue North. The site reportedly served as Ramirez’s home and business.

The emergency call first involved a possible medication overdose. Dispatchers later received information involving a firearm and threats of self-harm.

Investigators reportedly heard a gunshot while the telephone call continued. A witness then took control of the telephone.

The witness said he was holding Ramirez’s arm down. He also reported that Ramirez still had the firearm.

Witness Reportedly Intervened

Officers found Ramirez and the witness on the shop floor, according to the complaint.

A firearm was reportedly lying near Ramirez’s right hand. Officers secured the weapon and separated both men.

The witness said Ramirez had pointed the firearm at his own head. The witness reportedly pushed the gun away before it fired.

No injuries were listed in the complaint.

The weapon was identified as a .45-caliber Taurus Judge revolver. Investigators reported finding two fired rounds and two unfired rounds.

Officers also found several boxes of ammunition near the reported struggle. The ammunition included multiple rifle, revolver, and handgun calibers.

Three Felony Charges Filed

Prosecutors allege Ramirez cannot legally possess firearms or ammunition. The complaint cites a 2008 felony domestic assault conviction in Clay County.

Each unlawful possession count carries a maximum possible sentence of 15 years. Each count also carries a possible $30,000 fine.

The reckless discharge charge carries up to two years in prison. It also carries a possible $5,000 fine.
