McIntosh Man Charged With Felony Threats
Polk County (trfnews.i234.me) — A McIntosh man is facing a felony charge after authorities say he made threats of violence toward a family member.
Kenneth Leif Haugen, 64, of McIntosh, Minnesota, is charged with felony threats of violence in Polk County District Court.
The charge comes from an incident reported on July 8, 2026. Court documents state Haugen allegedly made threats involving murder and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
Alleged Threats Reported to Authorities
According to the criminal complaint, authorities received reports that Haugen made threats through voicemail messages and text messages.
The alleged threats were directed toward a family member identified in court documents as JH.
Investigators said Haugen allegedly made statements that caused fear of possible harm.
The complaint states that one voicemail included a reference to using a shotgun against JH.
Authorities also reviewed text messages allegedly sent by Haugen to another family member.
The messages reportedly referenced removing a protection order and getting firearms.

Court documents state Haugen was known to have firearms stored at a family member’s residence.
A family member told investigators Haugen owned at least four firearms.
The firearms reportedly included two handguns and two rifles.
The complaint also states Haugen had recently asked someone to help locate his guns.

Family Members Reported Concerns
According to court records, family members reported concerns about Haugen’s recent behavior.
One family member told investigators that Haugen’s mental health appeared to be declining.
The complaint states the alleged threats were communicated through relatives.
Authorities said the statements caused the targeted person to fear possible injury or death.
The charge alleges Haugen intentionally threatened a violent crime or acted with reckless disregard for the fear it could cause.
Felony Charge Filed in Polk County
Haugen is charged with felony threats of violence under Minnesota law.
The offense carries a possible maximum sentence of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
Court records show the case was filed in Polk County District Court.
The complaint lists Haugen’s address as 315 Broadway Street in McIntosh.
A review of court records also lists a prior criminal history entry from 1984 involving a first-degree criminal sexual conduct conviction that was later set aside or pardoned.
Charges are allegations, and Haugen is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
