East Grand Forks Man Faces Assault Felonies

East Grand Forks (trfnews.i234.me) — A local man faces two felony charges following an alleged domestic assault.

Logan Felix De La Cruz, 40, has been charged in Polk County District Court.

He faces third-degree assault and domestic assault by strangulation charges.

The charges are allegations. De La Cruz is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Woman Reports Assault at Home

According to the criminal complaint, the reported assault happened on June 24, 2026.

The woman spoke with East Grand Forks police the following afternoon.

She said an argument began inside their East Grand Forks home.

The complaint says De La Cruz pushed her against a wall and a closet door.

She alleged he then punched her in the nose with a closed fist.

The woman said she was pushed onto a bed during the struggle.

She alleged De La Cruz placed one hand around her neck.

She said his other hand covered her nose.

The woman reported struggling to breathe during three separate attempts.

She said she did not lose consciousness.

The complaint says police observed a red mark across the woman’s nose.

They also saw a black eye beginning to form.

A bruise was visible under her right arm.

The woman also reported neck pain, blurry vision, and a headache.

She planned to seek treatment at a hospital for a possible broken nose.

De La Cruz later acknowledged that the dispute became physical, the complaint states.

He said they pushed each other.

When asked about choking, he reportedly said his hands may have been near her neck.

He said any contact was not intentional.

Third-degree assault involving substantial bodily harm carries a five-year maximum prison sentence.

It may also carry a fine of up to $10,000.

Domestic assault by strangulation carries up to three years in prison.

The charge may also carry a fine of up to $5,000.

The complaint also references an earlier Extreme Risk Protection Order involving De La Cruz.

That order bars him from buying or possessing firearms.
