Theodore “Ted” Schock, 92, Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Valley Senior Living on Columbia, Grand Forks.

Ted was born on July 8, 1932 in Arena, ND to Fred and Caroline (Krein) Schock. At age six, his family moved to a farm in Tuttle, ND, where he attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Tuttle High School in 1950. He attended Jamestown College for one year. Ted worked construction on the Garrison Dam for two years. It was there that he met the love of his life, Ginnie Schlenker, and they were married on May 25, 1952 at English Lutheran Church in Tuttle. He farmed before joining the Army in 1953, doing basic training in Georgia before being deployd to Japan during the Korean War where he served 18 months until his Honorable Discharge in 1961.

Ted and Ginnie settled in Grand Forks where he worked for Pierce Mobile Home Sales. In 1969, he went to work for Home of Economy and retired after 24 years. Ted worked part-time for Altru Clinic as a Patient Assistant for another seven years. Ted was a longtime member of University Lutheran Church where he was active serving on many boards including President and volunteering where needed. For many years they enjoyed traveling, supporting UND sports, and selling birdhouses, wind chimes, and license plate shadow boxes he made at craft shows. He was also a member of the Germans from Russia chapter in Grand Forks.

He is survived by his wife, Ginnie, Grand Forks; two sons, Richard (Mel) Schock, Jacksonville, FL and Kirby Schock, Grand Forks; two daughters, Sherryl (John) Strecker, Onalaska, WI and Pamela (Bob) Christensen, Chippewa Falls, WI; grandchildren, Angie (Kirk Izard) Salvatore, Denise Arnold, Branden Schock, Trisha (Nicholas) Anderson, Erick Strecker, and Justin (Jessica) Martineau; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Chase, Bre’Asia, Dakota, Austin, Alexander, Savannah, Carver and Jackson; siblings, Elhard Schock, Oscar (Sue) Schock, Roy (Donna) Schock, Leona Rowe and Gladys (Paul) Stramer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gertie Schreiner, Dennis Schlenker, Art (Lois) Schlenker and Phyllis Duarte; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be lovingly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard and Edwin; sisters-in-law, Karen Schock, Sharon Schock, Gladys Jamtgaard, Linda Schlenker, and Ellie Schlenker; brothers-in-law, Howard Schlenker, Ernie Larson, Whitey Jamtgaard, Joe Duarte, and Cletie Schreiner.

The family would like to offer a special heartfelt thank you to Valley Sr. Living on Columbia, especially the Lanark Staff who lovingly cared for him.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11:00 AM on Friday, August 2, 2024 at University Lutheran Church, 2122 University Ave., Grand Forks, ND 58203 with visitation one hour prior.

INURNMENT: A private graveside service will follow at Memorial Park South, Grand Forks with Military Honors provided by the ND National Guard, EGF American Legion Post #157 and VFW Post #3817.
