Thief River Falls – Janice Marlene Hanson, 88 of Thief River Falls, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Janice Marlene Hanson was born on December 9, 1937, in Thief River Falls, daughter of William Thomas and Rose (Heinz) Fluke. She attended school in Newfolden graduating with the class of 1955.
Janice was united in marriage to Earl Leonard Hanson on October 1, 1955, at the Evangelical Free Church in Newfolden. The couple moved to L.A. California where they lived for 10 years.
They purchased a farm in Holt Township where they farmed for 40 years, retiring in 2005 and moving into Thief River Falls. Janice was an excellent cook, enjoyed crafting, and was a great gardener. She enjoyed picking wild berries and mushrooms and taught her son, Randy, to do the same. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and also helped run farm equipment.
Janice is survived by her son Randy of Billings, MT; daughter Laurie (Dale) Miller of Zellwood, FL; grandsons Justin (Ally) Miller of Dover, NH and Micah (Angel) Miller of Selah, WA; great-granddaughter Maiev Miller of Selah, WA; foster daughter Rozanne Swanson-Lacek; and sister De Etta Hanson of Thief River Falls.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents William and Rose Fluke; siblings Willis Fluke, Lorene Trim, Luella Oien, Mae Von Wald, Donald Fluke, Walter Fluke, and DeEta Hanson.
The funeral service for Janice will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls with Pastor Kent Hudson officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, starting at 5 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
