GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – Justin Marcel Peterson, 39, from Grafton, is scheduled to stand trial starting August 6 on several serious charges stemming from a March incident involving a high-speed chase and drug-related offenses. Peterson faces a Class A felony charge for possession of at least 50 grams of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture or deliver, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years. Additionally, he is charged with two Class C felonies: marijuana possession with intent and reckless endangerment.
The remaining charges are misdemeanors, including Class A misdemeanor fleeing a police officer, and Class B misdemeanors for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, refusal to test for DUI, and refusal to halt.
The arrest occurred after Peterson was initially pulled over for a broken rear license plate light. Despite showing signs of impairment and a strong smell of marijuana, he fled the scene, leading to a pursuit where he crashed into various objects and eventually fell into the Red River. Law enforcement recovered 179.7 grams of methamphetamine, 36.8 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a digital scale, empty bags, and $1,960 from his vehicle and personal belongings.
Peterson’s status conference is set for August 5, with the trial to follow the next day.
