- Driver: Robert Winkler, 43, Cavalier, North Dakota; sustained serious life-threatening injuries; no helmet worn; charged with Driving Under Revocation & Driving Without Liability Insurance
- Passenger: Jenny Halldorson, 43, Hamilton, North Dakota; sustained fatal injuries; no helmet worn
Narrative:
On the night of July 19, 2024, Robert Winkler was traveling northbound on County Road 4, approximately a quarter mile south of County Road 1, when a deer suddenly appeared on the roadway. Winkler struck the deer, causing his passenger, Jenny Halldorson, to be ejected from the motorcycle. Winkler and the motorcycle continued into the east ditch, where he became trapped underneath the vehicle. Emergency services transported Winkler to Pembina County Memorial Hospital in Cavalier with serious injuries. Tragically, Halldorson was pronounced dead at the scene.
