Gary Woman Faces 3 Felonies in Bad Check Case
Gary, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A Gary woman faces three felony charges involving dishonored checks, according to a criminal complaint.
Kelsey Rae Wastweet, 36, was charged June 15 in Polk County District Court.
Prosecutors filed three counts of felony issuance of dishonored checks.
The charges involve a Sacred Heart school fundraiser and a sports equipment company.
Fundraiser Checks Returned
The complaint says Wastweet wrote two checks to the RaiseRight gift card fundraiser during the summer of 2025.
The first check was dated July 22, 2025, and totaled $996.
The second check was dated July 30 and totaled $9,750.
Both checks were returned with the message “unable to locate account,” according to the complaint.
RaiseRight also reported two online gift card orders placed on August 6, 2025.
Those orders totaled $8,400.
Investigators said the BankMobile account used for the checks had already been closed.
Records showed Wastweet had two BankMobile accounts.
Both accounts were closed for fraud in July 2018, according to the complaint.
Investigators also found about $80,000 in attempted transactions involving the closed account.

Sports Apparel Purchase Investigated
A separate check was reported in early 2026, according to the complaint.
Investigators said Wastweet ordered customized hockey apparel from Stinger Bat Co.
The purchase was made on February 11, 2026.
She allegedly wrote a check for $1,929.95 from the same closed BankMobile account.
The company had not received payment as of June 11, 2026, the complaint states.
Court Appearance and Possible Penalties
Each felony count carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
Each count also carries a possible $10,000 fine. A judge may impose both penalties.
A warrant was issued for Wastweet’s arrest on June 15, 2026.
She made her first court appearance on June 22, according to court records.
