Cass Lake Man Charged in $2,349 Theft Case

CASS LAKE (trfnews.i234.me) — A Cass Lake man faces three charges after an alleged theft and foot chase.

Faron James Fineday is charged in Cass County District Court. The case was filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District.

The court file number is 11-CR-26-824.

The charges include felony theft, gross misdemeanor obstruction, and misdemeanor fleeing on foot. The alleged offenses happened on June 9, 2026.

According to the complaint, a woman reported that Fineday took her property after a domestic dispute.

The complaint says the two had previously been in a relationship. It alleges Fineday left the area with several items.

Those items included a JBL speaker, an Xbox console, and a MacBook computer. Their combined value was estimated at $2,349.

An officer later found the speaker and Xbox near an ATV trail. The MacBook was still missing, according to the filing.

The complaint says an officer saw Fineday walking near 164th Street Northwest that morning.

The officer tried to speak with him about the reported theft. Fineday allegedly became upset and took an aggressive stance.

Authorities then tried to detain him. The complaint says he pulled away, struggled, and ran into a wooded area.

Officers searched the area but did not find him at that time.

Later that evening, authorities received a report about a nearby fight.

An officer then saw Fineday walking on 160th Street Northwest.

The officer told Fineday he was under arrest. The complaint alleges he resisted before being restrained.

The felony theft charge carries up to five years in prison. It also carries a possible $10,000 fine.

The obstruction charge carries up to 364 days in jail. It also carries a possible $3,000 fine.

The fleeing charge carries up to 90 days in jail. It also carries a possible $1,000 fine.
