Bemidji Man Charged After Canceled-License Stop

Bemidji, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji man faces a gross misdemeanor charge after a June 13 traffic stop.

Cole Lee Sobolik is charged with driving after cancellation as being inimical to public safety. The charge was filed in Beltrami County District Court.

Traffic Stop Near Bemidji High School

A criminal complaint says the stop happened around 11 a.m. on Fifth Street. A Minnesota State Patrol trooper saw a purple GMC Sierra pulling a boat trailer.

The complaint says the vehicle had window tint darker than state law allows. The trooper stopped the truck near Northdale Oil.

Sobolik was identified as the driver, according to the complaint. He allegedly told the trooper that his license was revoked.

A records check showed his Minnesota driving privileges were canceled as inimical to public safety. That status is often called DAC-IPS.

Sobolik was then taken into custody, the complaint states.

Gross Misdemeanor Charge Filed

The filed charge is a gross misdemeanor under Minnesota Statute 171.24, subdivision 5.

The complaint lists a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail. It also lists a possible fine of $3,000.

Any sentence would be decided by the court after a conviction.

Driving Record Listed in Complaint

The complaint also lists a pending second-degree DWI case from 2026. That case has not been resolved.

Court documents also cite three North Dakota license actions. They include a 2020 refusal-related revocation.

The record lists alcohol-related driving revocations from 2015 and 2009. Those entries were included in the complaint.

Sobolik is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. A criminal complaint contains allegations and does not establish guilt.

Public case information may be available through Minnesota Court Records Online.

The case was filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District. The court file number is 04-CR-26-1363.

Further hearings will determine how the case moves forward. No final ruling was included in the complaint.
