Canosia Township Crash Toyota Rav4 Runs Red Light

Canosia Township (trfnews.i234.me) – On December 10, 2025, at 12:30 PM, a crash occurred on southbound Highway 53 near Midway Road in Canosia Township, St. Louis County. A 2018 Toyota Rav4, driven by 66-year-old Catherine Jeanette Chavers of Orr, MN, ran a red light at the intersection, striking a 2009 Volvo C30 Hatchback traveling southbound on Midway Road. The collision caused the Toyota Rav4 to spin out and crash into a stationary 2016 Ford Fusion, which had been waiting at a red light on northbound Highway 53.

The driver of the Ford Fusion, 31-year-old Nathan Taylor Budisalovich of Cloquet, MN, and his passenger, 21-year-old Israel Jay Peterson of Mahtowa, MN, were both wearing seat belts. Budisalovich sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was assessed at the scene, but he did not require transport to a medical facility. Peterson was unharmed.

The driver of the Volvo, 65-year-old Thomas George Allen of Duluth, MN, and his passenger, 43-year-old Thomas Gerald Allen, were also wearing seat belts and were uninjured. Chavers, the driver of the Toyota Rav4, was transported to Essentia Hospital Duluth with non-life-threatening injuries.

The road conditions were dry at the time of the incident, and the Canosia Fire Department, Mayo Ambulance, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, and Dukes Towing responded to the scene.
