Bemidji Man Charged After Assault Report

Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji man is facing a felony domestic assault charge after a reported assault on May 20, 2026.

Nathan Bruce Hunt, 42, of Bemidji, is charged in Beltrami County District Court. The case is filed under Court File No. 04-CR-26-1161.

According to the complaint, Hunt is charged with felony domestic assault. He is also charged with fleeing a peace officer on foot and obstructing legal process.

Reported Assault On Itasca Loop

The complaint says officers were called to 2510 Itasca Loop NW at about 3:12 a.m.

A reported assault had taken place at the apartment building. Hunt had allegedly left the scene on foot.

When officers arrived, they found the victim with significant facial injuries. Emergency medical services were requested.

The victim told officers that Hunt struck her, according to the complaint. She also said he may have had a knife.

A witness reported that the victim came to another apartment after the assault. The victim said she was scared.

The witness also reported seeing Hunt outside the building. The complaint says he was yelling before walking away.

Arrest Near Timber Ridge Apartments

Bystanders later reported Hunt’s location near the Timber Ridge apartments.

Officers found Hunt and told him he was under arrest, according to the complaint. Hunt allegedly ignored commands and walked away.

The complaint says officers believed Hunt may have been armed. A Taser was used during the arrest.

Hunt was taken into custody and transported to jail.

At the jail, Hunt allegedly yelled while officers tried to read him his Miranda rights. He also allegedly kicked a squad car barrier.

The complaint says he prevented officers from taking photos of scratches on his back.

Charges And Possible Penalties

The felony domestic assault charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. It also carries a possible $10,000 fine.

The two misdemeanor counts each carry a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail. Each also carries a possible $1,000 fine.

The complaint cites Minnesota’s domestic assault statute, Minnesota Statute 609.2242.

It also cites Minnesota Statute 609.487 for fleeing. The obstruction charge cites Minnesota Statute 609.50.

The complaint says Hunt has two prior qualified domestic violence-related convictions within the last ten years.

Those cases are listed as 29-CR-25-997 and 60-CR-22-15.

All charges are allegations. Hunt is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
