Palermo Crash Kills New Town Man
Mountrail County (trfnews.i234.me) — A 22-year-old New Town man died early Monday in a two-vehicle crash east of Palermo.
The crash happened at about 12:07 a.m. Monday, June 1. It occurred on U.S. Highway 2 at mile marker 105. The site is near 67th Avenue Northwest, about five miles east of Palermo.
The North Dakota State Patrol said road conditions were wet at the time. Rain was also reported in the area.
Crash Happened On Wet Highway
According to the crash report, a 2008 GMC Sierra was traveling south on 67th Avenue Northwest. A 2020 Ford Expedition was traveling east on U.S. Highway 2.
The State Patrol said the Sierra failed to yield to the Ford Expedition. The front of the Sierra then struck the rear driver’s side of the Expedition.
The driver of the GMC Sierra was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified him only as a 22-year-old man from New Town.
His name was not included in the initial release. Officials also did not release the name of the other driver.
Minot Driver Reported Injured
The second driver was a 59-year-old woman from Minot. She suffered minor injuries in the crash.
The State Patrol said she was wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the GMC Sierra was not wearing a seatbelt.
Emergency crews responded from several area agencies. Those agencies included the Mountrail County Sheriff’s Office, Stanley Fire Department, and Stanley Ambulance.
The North Dakota State Patrol is leading the investigation. Additional information may be released after the investigation continues.
