Dorothy A. Arvidson, 87, Grand Forks, ND, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024 in Valley Senior Living on Columbia Road.
Dorothy Ann Mattson was born August 7, 1936 in Park River, ND, the daughter of Carl and Ida (Peterson) Mattson. She was raised and educated in Park River and graduated from high school there. Dorothy graduated from Valley City Teacher’s College then taught school at Wimbledon, ND.
Dorothy married Fred Arvidson on May 30, 1959 in Wimbledon. The couple moved to Manvel, ND in 1968. Dorothy was a substitute teacher before going to work for UND Plant Services where she was employed for more than 20 years until her retirement.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling with Fred. She also enjoyed playing cards and other games with her family. She was active in Grace Baptist Church for many years where she was involved with the Dorcas Circle, missions board, trustees and wherever else she was asked to serve.
Dorothy loved to attend sporting events of her children and grandchildren. She always had a great seat in the Red River High School gymnasium for basketball games. Dorothy was a big sports fan. Whatever game was on TV, whether it be high school, college, or professional teams, she enjoyed them all…even the reruns!
Dorothy was always easy going and kind to others. What gave her the most joy was her personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Dorothy was a prayer warrior and was on several prayer chains throughout her life.
Survivors include her children, Dave (LuAnn) Arvidson, Grand Forks, Don (Monica) Arvidson, Fargo, ND, Kevin (Kelly) Arvidson, Grand Forks, Dawna Minks, Los Angeles, CA, Patti Jo (Tom) Sandbo, Hillsboro, ND; Foster sons, Kermit White, and Wayne Anderson; grandchildren, Chelsi, Savannah, Zack, Mack, Joshua, Haley, Krystina, Tiphani, Jade, and Courtney; and 13 great grandchildren.
