Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji man is facing a felony assault charge after a parking lot dispute at Lueken’s North Grocery Store allegedly left a 71-year-old man with a fractured hip.

Felony Charge Filed In Beltrami County

According to a criminal complaint filed in Beltrami County District Court, Jacob Emil Fisher has been charged with third-degree assault causing substantial bodily harm.

The case is filed under court number 04-CR-26-850 in Minnesota’s 9th Judicial District.

The alleged incident happened on or about February 11, 2026, in Bemidji.

Under Minnesota Statute 609.223, third-degree assault involving substantial bodily harm is a felony. The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.

Complaint Details Parking Lot Dispute

The complaint says officers responded to Lueken’s North Grocery Store after a reported altercation in the parking lot.

The alleged victim, identified in court documents as J.S., told police he was sitting in his parked truck. He said a black SUV was parked next to him.

J.S. reported that the SUV driver asked him to move. The driver allegedly said the truck door might hit the SUV.

The complaint says the driver then yelled and took a photo of J.S.’s license plate.

J.S. told police he got out of his truck. He said he walked toward the front of the SUV to take a photo of its license plate.

During that time, J.S. alleged the SUV driver shoved him to the ground.

J.S. said he felt pain in his hip after the fall. He later went to the hospital for treatment.

Medical Records Cited In Complaint

According to the complaint, medical records showed J.S. suffered a closed, nondisplaced fracture of the anterior wall of his left acetabulum.

The acetabulum is part of the hip socket.

J.S. told police he is 71 years old. He described the other driver as heavy-set, with a brown beard and glasses.

The complaint says J.S. also provided the SUV’s license plate number.

Investigators later found that the SUV was registered to Jacob Emil Fisher. Court documents say his license photo matched the general description given by J.S.

Surveillance Video Reviewed

The complaint says surveillance video showed J.S. leaving his truck and moving toward the front of the SUV.

The video allegedly showed Jacob Fisher moving quickly toward J.S. before J.S. fell to the ground.

A summons was issued in the case.
