Duluth (trfnews.i234.me) — A Duluth pilot made an emergency landing on Highway 61 Saturday afternoon after his small plane lost engine power.

The emergency landing happened around 3 p.m. near Eastridge Boulevard. The area is between Duluth and Knife River.

According to the Duluth Police Department, officers responded after a single-engine plane landed on the highway.

The pilot told Northern News Now that he had taken off from Duluth. He was flying along the North Shore at the time.

He said he was breaking in a new engine on the aircraft. During the flight, the engine stopped running.

Pilot Lands Safely On Highway

The pilot was the only person inside the plane. He is from Duluth.

He told crews at the scene that he was not hurt.

After landing, the plane was moved off the highway. Officers helped push it into a grassy area near Eastridge Boulevard.

Traffic was not impacted by the emergency landing.

Engine Trouble Reported During Flight

The pilot said he trains for emergency situations like this. He said that preparation helped him respond safely.
