Thief River Falls Man Charged In Meth Child Case

Pennington County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Newfolden man now faces two felony drug charges. The charges follow a March 7 traffic stop in Thief River Falls. Court records identify the defendant as Roger Harlan Garfve, 54.

According to a criminal complaint, prosecutors charged Garfve with a meth-related crime involving children and fifth-degree drug possession. The complaint says suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found in a vehicle that also carried an infant.

The charges were filed in Minnesota Judicial Branch records. The cited laws include Minnesota Statute 152.137 and Minnesota Statute 152.025.

Traffic Stop Near Schools

The complaint says the stop began after an officer saw a vehicle with revoked registration. The vehicle then turned east on First Street. Records say it passed Lincoln High School and St. Bernard’s School before stopping near the Law Enforcement Center.

Authorities identified Ashley Marie Wilson as the driver. Garfve was in the front passenger seat. Bobbi Jo Garfve was in the back seat with an infant, according to the complaint.

Court records say Wilson and Garfve were upset during the stop. The complaint also says both showed signs that suggested drug use. Garfve allegedly told police he had used methamphetamine about a week earlier.

Drugs Found In Vehicle

Authorities then used a narcotics dog on the vehicle, according to the complaint. The dog alerted near the passenger side. A later search found a glass pipe with residue inside a purse linked to Bobbi Jo Garfve, the complaint says.

Investigators also found a glove inside the vehicle, according to court records. Inside that glove, they found a small baggie with a white crystal substance. The complaint says a field test showed a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine.

The substance weighed about 2.04 grams on an uncertified scale, according to the complaint. Records say the glove and jacket were linked to the passenger area where Garfve had been sitting.

Case Now Moves Forward

The complaint says Garfve has three prior drug convictions. That history is part of the second felony count now filed against him. Wilson also had marijuana in her purse, according to the complaint.

Garfve has not been convicted in this case. The charges are allegations, and the case must still be decided in court.
