Lanny B. Aaker, 74, Grand Forks, ND, left Altru Hospital on May 10th, 2024 to join his brothers in heavens band.
Lanny B. Aaker was born December 5, 1949 in Grand Forks, the son of Harlan and Constance (Maristuen) Aaker. He was raised and educated in Grand Forks, graduating from Central High School in 1967. Lanny attended Mayville State University, then traveled as a musician for many years with the band, The Fabulous Cornerstones. He later graduated from the Hair Designer’s Academy and became a licensed cosmetologist in Grand Forks, working at the J.C. Penney’s Salon for 27 years. Lanny also continued to be a musician in the area.
Lanny enjoyed fishing at Devils Lake, ND, a place he called Heaven on Earth. He also enjoyed hunting, especially elk hunting in Idaho. Lanny was proud to be a longtime member of Alcoholics Anonymous and had been sober for 40 years. He was very faithful to the group and served as a mentor to many.
Survivors include his sister, Conni (Harold) Wolfe, Grand Forks; his longtime partner and love of his life, Lori Johnson, Grand Forks; sons Kelly Aaker and Cory Aaker, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Chantell and Dallas; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Sister in laws, Paulette Aaker and Terry Aaker, Grand Forks.
Lanny was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers, LeRoy, Jon, Tommy; and a special aunt, Margie Maristuen and best friend Dick Olson.
The song has ended, but the melody lingers on.
Funeral services were held 1:00 PM Thursday May 23 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Grand Forks. Visitation was for the hour before the service in the church. Burial took place in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks. Arrangements by Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
