Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Brainerd man faces a new DWI charge after a traffic stop on Highway 1.
Court papers name the driver as Andrew David Wheeler, born April 10, 1979.
The case is filed in Cass County District Court, Ninth Judicial District.
Prosecutors list court file 11-CR-26-305.
Charge
Wheeler is charged with second-degree DWI, a gross misdemeanor.
The complaint cites Minn. Stat. § 169A.20 and Minn. Stat. § 169A.25.
A second-degree DWI requires two aggravating factors, court records say.
Prosecutors allege two factors in this case.
They cite a test result above 0.16 and a prior DWI.

What led to the stop
The complaint says a motorist flagged down a deputy on March 1, 2026.
The motorist reported a gray Chevrolet Silverado weaving on Cass County Highway 1.
A deputy then located the pickup and watched it drift across road lines.
The deputy stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver.
The complaint says the deputy smelled alcohol.
Field tests and breath test
Wheeler was asked to do field sobriety tests, the complaint says.
The papers describe signs of impairment during an eye test.
They also describe issues during the walk-and-turn test.
They say he stepped off the line and missed heel-to-toe steps.
They say the one-legged stand ended early due to poor directions.
The complaint says Wheeler was taken to the Cass County Law Enforcement Center.
He was read the breath test advisory, the complaint says.
A breath test within two hours measured 0.253 BAC, according to the complaint.
Prior record and possible penalties
The complaint lists a prior DWI conviction from 2017 in Crow Wing County.
Second-degree DWI is punishable by up to 364 days in jail.
It also carries a possible $3,000 fine.
A judge will decide conditions of release and future hearing dates.
Court records are public through Minnesota Court Records Online.
