Guns found during frisk, complaint says

Police said they knew Johns from earlier contacts involving guns.

The complaint also says he was linked to a review of a past robbery suspect.

Officers did a weapons frisk and said they found two handguns on him.

Police said Johns did not have a permit to carry a pistol.

One handgun had deep scratches over the serial number, police said.

Investigators said the marks appeared to be an attempt to hide the number.

Booking search leads to suspected fentanyl

Police arrested Johns and took him to the Beltrami County Jail, the complaint says.

During booking, staff reported finding about 1.25 grams of suspected fentanyl.

The complaint says the substance was hidden inside the brim of his hat.

The substance will be tested, and the case is pending in court.

Charges filed

Johns is charged with felony possession of a firearm with an altered serial number.

He is also charged with felony fifth-degree drug possession.

He is also charged with a gross misdemeanor carrying a pistol without a permit.

Charges are accusations and do not prove guilt.
