CLAY COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — A Moorhead woman has been arrested after an early morning assault that left another woman injured, according to Moorhead Police.

The incident happened at 1:43 a.m. Saturday. Officers were called to the 1800 block of 20th Street South to assist Sanford Ambulance with an injured woman. Police say the victim, a 53-year-old female, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Moorhead Police Sgt. Nick Leinen confirmed the details during a Saturday morning conversation with TRF News. He said the woman was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police did not release the nature of the injuries but described them as the result of an assault.

Officers arrested Maryssa Cooley, 22, of Moorhead. She was taken into custody pending formal charges of assault and domestic assault. Police say formal charges may be filed as early as Monday when the Clay County Attorney reviews the case.

The incident remains under investigation. Additional information may become available once prosecutors review reports and determine final charges. Early records often contain limited details, and charges can change during review.

Domestic assault cases follow Minnesota state law, which outlines penalties for repeated or serious assault offenses. More information on Minnesota’s domestic assault statutes can be found at the Minnesota Statutes website.

Moorhead Police have not released further information on what led to the assault. The relationship between the suspect and the victim has not been disclosed in early reports.

Anyone with information about the case can contact Moorhead Police. The department typically releases updated information following formal charges or court filings.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless convicted in court.
