St. Louis County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Duluth man is facing two gross misdemeanor charges after police say he exposed himself at a public beach and later brought contraband into the St. Louis County Jail.

According to court documents, 34-year-old Dorian Michael Best of Duluth was arrested on November 12th after officers were called to Rock Beach near Leif Erikson Park. Witnesses reported a man engaging in lewd behavior in view of the public. Officers arrived and identified Best as the suspect.

Investigators say Best was covered in a red substance at the time of the arrest. He reportedly made several comments to officers, including a statement that he believed he would be jailed for what he described as “stupid” disorderly conduct. Officers placed him under arrest and transported him to the St. Louis County Jail for booking.

During intake, jail staff conducted a routine body scan. The scan revealed an item concealed in Best’s rectum. Staff removed a small bag that allegedly contained methamphetamine mixed with red dye. The discovery resulted in an additional gross misdemeanor charge for introducing contraband into a jail facility.

Court documents note that Best has a prior conviction for indecent exposure. That history was referenced by prosecutors as part of the charging process. Officials have not reported any injuries related to the incident.

The case remained under review on Friday as investigators documented statements and evidence. Prosecutors say more information may be included in future filings. Jail staff reported no safety concerns after the contraband was removed.

Indecent exposure laws in Minnesota cover a wide range of conduct in public spaces. More information about state criminal statutes can be found at the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes. Additional resources on substance abuse and treatment services are available through the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
