DETROIT LAKES, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A shocking international case involving a Detroit Lakes missionary family has reached a verdict overseas.
Jackie Shroyer, wife of Bo (Beau) Shroyer, has been found guilty in an Angolan court for orchestrating the murder-for-hire plot that led to her husband’s death in October 2024. The couple had been serving as missionaries in Angola, Africa, on behalf of the Vineyard Church of Detroit Lakes.
In a public statement, the church’s pastor wrote:
“It saddens me deeply to share the following update regarding the legal proceedings involving Jackie Shroyer. This morning I was notified that Jackie was convicted by an Angolan court of involvement in the murder of her husband, Bo Shroyer.”
The statement did not specify how long she will serve in an Angolan prison.
Bo Shroyer was a former Detroit Lakes police officer who transitioned to missionary work in Africa. His body was discovered on October 25, 2024, in the town of Palanca, with personal belongings — including binoculars and a hat — found nearby.
Investigators from Angola’s Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) concluded that the killing was a murder-for-hire plot orchestrated by Jackie and carried out by two men, including the couple’s housekeeper and security guard, who was also allegedly her lover. Authorities say she helped plan the ambush and offered $50,000 for the murder.
One suspect remains at large, while others have been detained. Angolan authorities seized the vehicle used in the crime and the alleged murder weapon — a knife brought from the United States.
The U.S. Embassy in Angola has been monitoring the case, and the Shroyer family has been in contact with officials.
