Grand Forks County (trfnews.i234.me) — Firefighters have extinguished a grain dryer fire at the Farmer’s Elevator in Honeyford, North Dakota, early Tuesday morning.
Crews were called to the scene northwest of Grand Forks after flames were reported in a grain dryer unit shortly before sunrise. Photos submitted by TRF News viewers showed the dryer fully engulfed in flames, sending heavy smoke into the air. Firefighters from area departments responded quickly to prevent the blaze from spreading to the main elevator structure.
By 8:15 a.m., firefighters had the fire under control and fully extinguished. Updated photos show the grain dryer sustained heavy damage, but the main elevator building was spared. No injuries have been reported.
The fire occurred at the Farmer’s Elevator in Honeyford, located northwest of the Grand Forks Air Force Base. Officials have not released details on what may have caused the fire, though grain dryers are known to pose a seasonal risk during fall harvest operations when dust buildup and long run times can trigger ignition.
This marks one of several grain dryer fires reported across the region in recent days as temperatures drop and farmers work to finish the harvest. Crews are expected to remain on scene this morning to monitor for flare-ups and assess structural damage.
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available from Grand Forks County emergency officials.
