LAKE OF THE WOODS COUNTY, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — Authorities say a Chaska man has died following a boating accident on Lake of the Woods over the weekend. According to the Lake of the Woods County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a capsized boat around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday.
The victim has been identified as 69-year-old Brian Herridge of Chaska, Minnesota. Officials confirmed that Herridge died as a result of the accident, though details about what caused the boat to capsize have not yet been released.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by local rescue crews and emergency medical services. Weather and water conditions at the time of the incident have not been disclosed. Authorities say an investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
Lake of the Woods, located along the Minnesota-Canada border, is a popular destination for fishing and recreation, but can present safety challenges due to its large open waters and shifting winds. Officials remind boaters to always wear life jackets, check weather forecasts, and ensure vessels are equipped with emergency flotation and communication devices before heading out.
