Richland County (trfnews.i234.me) – A man was airlifted to a Fargo hospital following a dirt bike crash Sunday afternoon near Hankinson, North Dakota.

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, the call came in around 3:49 p.m. Sunday. Deputies were notified of an injury accident in the Sand Hills area, northwest of Hankinson. The crash happened on a dirt trail and involved a single dirt bike.

The 19-year-old driver, who was wearing a helmet and safety gear, was found conscious and breathing when first responders arrived. Due to the extent of his injuries, he was airlifted by Sanford AirMed to Essentia Health in Fargo for treatment.

Emergency crews from Hankinson Fire and Ambulance also responded to the scene, along with the Richland County Sheriff’s Office and Sanford AirMed. Authorities confirmed that the rider had been taking part in recreational trail riding when the accident occurred.

Officials say the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Deputies have not released further details on what led to the crash or the rider’s current condition.
