Hubbard County: Man Stabbed Multiple Times Near Park Rapids
HUBBARD COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office has released new details about an early Saturday morning stabbing that left a man seriously injured south of Park Rapids, Minnesota.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a 911 call at about 3:35 a.m. Saturday. The call came from a trailer park in Straight River Township, just south of Park Rapids. A resident reported hearing an adult male and a young girl screaming for help outside.
When the resident opened her door, she saw a man bleeding heavily from the chest. Deputies and medical personnel responded and identified the victim as 49-year-old David Kerr. He had been stabbed between eight and ten times.
Kerr was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids and later airlifted to Fargo for further treatment. Authorities say his injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
Investigators identified the suspect as 44-year-old Charles Justus of Park Rapids. Deputies went to his home, where they found his vehicle parked outside. Justus and his wife, 38-year-old Danielle Westphal, were detained and taken to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office for questioning.
During an interview, Justus reportedly admitted to stabbing Kerr multiple times with a knife. He told investigators that he once lived near Kerr and suspected his wife had an affair with him. According to the report, Justus went to Kerr’s home intending to hurt him. He attacked Kerr with his fists and a knife while Kerr’s five-year-old daughter was present.
After the attack, Justus returned home and told his wife what had happened. The two then left together in her vehicle and disposed of his bloodstained clothing. Westphal later confirmed to investigators that she helped him discard the evidence.
Both suspects are being held in the Hubbard County Jail pending formal charges. The case remains under investigation.
