Burke County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Burke County man is listed on the North Dakota Sex Offender Registry following a conviction in Ward County District Court.

According to state records, Robert Jay Coleman, 59, of Portal, was convicted on November 15, 2024, of luring a minor by computer. Court documents show he was sentenced to five years, with 18 months to serve and credit for 154 days already spent in custody. After release, Coleman will be on supervised probation for five years.

The registry lists Coleman as 6 feet tall, weighing 230 pounds, with brown eyes and gray hair. His registered residence is on Metzger Street in Portal. Records show no additional scars, marks, or tattoos are noted.

Registry officials list his risk level as low, with registration set to expire in 2040. He is currently considered a registered offender under North Dakota law.

The North Dakota Attorney General’s Office reminds the public that sex offender registry information is available to promote safety and awareness. However, it is a crime to misuse this information for harassment or illegal activity. For additional details, residents can visit the National Sex Offender Public Website.
