Clay County (trfnews.i234.me) – TRF News has confirmed a firearm incident at a Moorhead school on Wednesday, September 17. According to Moorhead Police, officers responded to the Moorhead Career Academy Alternative Learning Center after school officials reported a firearm on campus.

Staff members observed a 17-year-old student drop a firearm during a class transition. School staff quickly secured the weapon and escorted the student to a secure office. Police say the student did not make threats and was not considered an active danger at the time.

Responding officers took the juvenile into custody without incident. The individual was transported to the West Central Regional Juvenile Center, where they remain pending charges from the Clay County Attorney’s Office.

The juvenile faces three felony charges: possession of a firearm on school property, prohibited firearm possession by an ineligible person, and firearms removal or alteration of a serial number.

Moorhead Police and Moorhead Area Public Schools have stated that they remain committed to ensuring the safety of students and staff. Officials credited the quick actions of school personnel and law enforcement with preventing further risk on campus.
