Nelson Co. Crash Sends Lakota Man to Hospital
Nelson County (trfnews.i234.me) – Authorities are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left an elderly Lakota man seriously injured Tuesday afternoon.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 4:15 p.m. on September 16, 2025, at the intersection of eastbound U.S. Highway 2 and North Dakota Highway 1 near Lakota. Road and weather conditions were reported as good at the time of the incident.
A 2017 Volvo truck tractor with a trailer was traveling east on Highway 2 when a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, heading south on Highway 1, crossed the eastbound lanes. The Jeep was struck by the Volvo, and both vehicles went into the south ditch.
The driver of the truck, a 37-year-old man from Lackawanna, New York, was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Jeep, an 83-year-old man from Lakota, was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
Responding agencies included the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Lakota Ambulance, and Lakota Fire & Rescue. Charges in the crash remain under investigation.
