Kittson County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – A Moorhead man is facing felony charges in Kittson County after authorities say he conspired to steal a car from a store parking lot in Karlstad last summer.
According to court documents, 32-year-old Christopher Curtis Cloud has been charged with felony motor vehicle theft and felony conspiracy to commit motor vehicle theft. Both charges stem from a July 9, 2024, incident outside the Dollar General in Karlstad.
Deputies say a 2001 Saturn Ion was reported stolen after its owner left it in the parking lot while shopping. The vehicle contained personal items and cell phones, as the victim and her boyfriend were in the process of moving. Witnesses reported seeing a suspicious red Dodge pickup circling the area around the time of the theft.
During the investigation, deputies linked Cloud and a woman, identified as Angelica Bray, to the case. Security video from the store allegedly showed the pair leaving the Dollar General just minutes before the victim and her boyfriend returned to find their car gone. Investigators also tied them to another abandoned vehicle in Lake Bronson and cellphone data showing activity in East Grand Forks the following day.
The stolen Saturn was later recovered by East Grand Forks Police at a hotel. Deputies say the victim’s credit card was also used for multiple purchases after the theft.
If convicted, Cloud faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine on the motor vehicle theft charge, and an additional two and a half years on the conspiracy count. Read Minnesota’s statute on vehicle theft here.
